Section VI releases “Fall 2” football schedule which is minus an Albion vs. Medina game

Section VI today released the “Fall 2” football schedule which will include a short series of five games (instead of the normal eight games) for each school during the month of April.

For local fans the short season schedule includes one glaring omission – the Albion vs. Medina game. It will mark the first time since 1919 that a high school football season will be played without Albion and Medina meeting on the gridiron.

“Because it is a short five game season the section was not able to get most of the rivalry games in,” said Albion Athletic Director and Football Coach Adam Krenning. “If the rivals are not in the same classification then the game will not happen.”

This year Medina has dropped to Class C while Albion is still in Class B2. Since Class C has six schools and Class B2 seven schools the short five game season only allows for divisional contests.

Medina is scheduled to open the season on Thursday April 1 at home against Newfane at 7 p.m.

Albion’s season opener is slated for Saturday April 3 at Iroquois at 7 p.m.

Medina’s other games include Friday April 9 at Akron, Friday April 16 at home against Cleveland Hill, Friday April 23 at home against Wilson and Thursday April 29 at Tonawanda, all at 7 p.m.

Albion’s schedule also includes Friday April 9 at Depew, Friday April 16 at home against Dunkirk, Friday April 23 at Olean and Friday April 30 at home against Lake Shore, all at 7 p.m.
