Section VI and the WNY Sports Officials Association have reached a new contract agreement allowing the fall high school sports season to start on time this week.

Last week the Officials Association had informed Section VI that they would not make officials to work games to start the season unless the contract impasse was settled.

On Friday New York State Public High School Athletic Association Executive Director Robert Zayas called both sides to the negotiating table today in Buffalo for a meeting that has resulted in a new contract agreement.

A just released Section VI press release states “at approximately 5:30 p.m. today Section VI agreed to an agreement with the WNY Sports Officials. All involved are pleased to be moving forward with Fall Sports on behalf of our member schools and most importantly our student athletes. We appreciate the assistance of Dr. Robert Zayas and Todd Nelson from NYSPHSAA.”

The release continued, “Section VI continues to value the work of our Sports Officials on behalf of our student-athletes.. We look forard to a momentous year of Sports in Western New York.”
