Seahorses seeking first N-O boys swim title

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina’s Austin Tompkins and his Seahorses teammates will host Roy-Hart on Tuesday in a key meet for the Niagara-Orleans League lead.

Looking to end a long title drought, Medina will host Roy-Hart in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Defending champion Roy-Hart brings an 8-0 record into the meet while runner-up Medina is close behind at 7-1 and looking for a win in order to pull into a tie for the league lead.

The regular season will then end on Thursday with Medina hosting Newfane (4-4) and Roy-Hart entertaining Barker (0-8).

Medina is seeking it s first ever N-O boys swim title while Roy-Hart has captured the league crown 13 of the last 15 years.

Last year Medina posted its best ever N-O record at 8-2. The Seahorses only losses were to Roy-Hart, which went 10-0.

This season the Seahorses lone setback was a narrow 89-81 loss to the Channel Cats at Roy-Hart.

The Seahorses have been led by the veteran senior group of Isaac Pace, Michael Marker, Ben Griffin, Xander Payne, Jaxon Phillips, Cole Seefeldt and Austin Tompkins.

The Channel Cats have been sparked by seniors Jacob Hagen, James Heideman, Zach Livergood, Charles Rickard and Chris Ulrich along with juniors Andrew Ossont and Max Stern and freshman Sean Labiak.

The Medina girls squad will host Roy-Hart in the other portion of the meet.

Tuesday’s other N-O meets will have Albion at Newfane and Akron at Barker.
