Sandstone tops St. Mary’s in playoff semi

Moving on top to stay with a four run second inning scoring burst, Sandstone went on to defeat St. Mary’s 8-4 this evening in the semifinals of the Albion Midget League playoffs.
Hits by winning pitcher Caleb Fox, Caeden Uderitz and Emma Shay, along with 3 walks, keyed the big inning which vaulted Sandstone int oa 4-1 lead.
A two-run single by Chris Sacco, which followed a double by Fox, boosted the Sandstone lead to 6-2 in the fourth.
St. Mary’s did rally back to within 6-4 in the top of the fifth as Christian Swiercznski hit a home run.
However, Sandstone answered right back with a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth to go back up 8-4 as Fox had his third hit of the evening.
Fox also picked up the win on the mound registering 8 strikeouts.
Jayce Ashton had 3 hits for St. Mary’s including an RBI double.
Sandstone will next face Barre in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Midget League Field. It will be a rematch of last year’s final which was won by Barre.
