Sandstone locks up regular season title
Locking up the regular season title, Sandstone scored three wins this past week in Albion Midget League action.
Improving to 11-0, Sandstone defeated Elba 16-1, Carlton 5-0 and Rotary 13-2.
In the other games reported, Carlton and Barre split. Carlton won the first meeting 13-1 and Barre the second 5-3. Elba also downed Barre 14-2.
Wesley LeFrois had a three run double while Garrett Smith, Drew Pritchard and Brayden LaMartina each added two run doubles to lead Sandstone past Elba. LeFrois finished with 4 hits, Smith, LaMartina and Eli Johnson 3 and Pritchard 2.
Omer Fugate then hurled a 1 hit shutout with 15 strikeouts for Sandstone against Carlton.
Carlton also got a strong pitching performance from Gavin Boyce who allowed only 4 hits and struck out 9.
In the win over Rotary, LeFrois had 3 hits including a two run double, Johnson 2 hits including a three run home run and Smith 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Skyler Sanders had an RBI double for Rotary.
In Carlton’s win over Barre Noah Kowalski had 4 hits including a pair of doubles and a triple, as Jack Conn and Gavin Boyce both had 3 hits. Boyce also struck out 9 on the mound.
In the Barre win, Robbie Hickman had a key three run double in the fourth inning and Josh Wright registered 10 strikeouts in 4 innings. Conn had 3 hits, including a home run, and Hoyt Aina an RBI single for Carlton.
Elba was led by Tate Zuber with 2 triples and 13 strikeouts. Wright and Viktor Snyder both had 2 hits for Barre.
