Sandstone goes 2-1 on busy diamond week
Last week was a busy three game one for Sandstone in Albion Midget League baseball action.
Improving to 3-2, Sandstone defeated Vets 7-4 and Carlton 3-0 before dropping a narrow 9-8 decision to St. Mary’s.
Sandstone scored five runs in the third inning against Vets highlighted by two-run singles by Cencere Lowe and Drew Pritchard. A single by Seth Krenning and a double by Nolan Sullivan set up the threat.
Cencere finished with 3 hits and Elliottt Trapiss 2.
Hunter Lonnen had a two-run double for Vets in the sixth inning.
Krenning then hurled a one hit shutout with 13 strikeouts in the win over Carlton.
Sandstone scored once in the first on a single by Emma Shay and twice in the fifth on a single by Sullivan.
Finn McCue struck out 10 on the mound for Carlton.
St. Mary’s jumped out to a big 7-0 lead in the first inning against Sandstone highlighted by two-run doubles by Kyle Radder and Issac Sugar.
However, Sandstone battled back to knot the contest at 8-8 as Pritchard had a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run single in the third and Shay a three-run single in the fifth.
St. Mary’s though pulled out the win with a run in the sixth on doubles by Jack Kinter and Blake Preston.
Kinter, Preston and Sugar each finished with 2 hits.
Trapiss had 3 hits and Krenning and Pritchard 2 each for Sandstone.
Standings: Barre 4-0, Sandstone 3-2, Rotary 3-2, St. Mary’s 3-2, Carlton 1-3, Vets 0-5.
