Front-running Sandstone nipped Carlton 8-7 this past Thursday to earn its 10th Albion Midget League victory of the season.

Sandstone, which is now 10-2, also defeated St. Mary’s 8-2 earlier in the week.

Breaking away from a 5-5 deadlock, Sandstone regained the lead for good against Carlton by scoring 3 times in the fifth inning on singles by Seth Krenning and Nick Martino and a two-run double by Cencere Lowe.

Carlton though battled back to within one on a two-run home run by Finn McCue in the sixth inning.  Carlton then got the bases loaded before Sandstone shortstop Elliot Trapiss came up with a big defensive play to get the final out and preserve the win.

Earlier in the game Sandstone scored 3 times in the third inning as Krenning and Lowe both had doubles and then twice in the fourth on a two-run double by Martino.

Carlton tied the game at 5-5 with three tallies in the fifth highlighted by a two-run triple by Lee Fleck.

Martino had 4 hits and Lowe and Krenning 3 each for Sandstone while McCue and Fleck both had a pair of hits for Carlton.
