Sandstone, Barre post Albion Midget wins

Sandstone trimmed St. Mary’s 6-4 and Barre downed Rotary 6-1 in Albion Midget League baseball action Thursday.
Sandstone built up a 5-1 lead over St. Mary’s by scoring twice in the first on a triple by Caleb Fox and singles by Caden Uderitz and Chris Sacco, once in the fourth on a double by Sacco and single by Pom Seibert and twice in the fifth on hits by Elliot Trapiss, Jake Hughson and Sacco.
However, St. Mary’s got back into the game by scoring three times in the fifth on a double by Jayce Ashton and singles by Reuben Rivers and Tommy Fox. Ryan Schnepf also had a key RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Sandstone picked up an insurance run in the sixth on hits by Seth Krening, Hughson and Uderitz.
St. Mary’s did get a couple of runners on base in the sixth but could not capitalize as Caleb Fox registered two clutch strikeouts to end the game. He had a total of 13 strikeouts on the day as did Ashton for St. Mary’s.
Barre scored three times in the third inning on a two-run triple by Tyler Gibson and an RBI single by Jack Ludwick to key the win over Rotary. Gibson and winning pitcher Cade Wolcott both had multiple hits.
Wolcott allowed 1 hit and struck out 7 over the first 4 innings as Gibson came on to register the final 6 outs.
