Sandstone advances to Midget playoff finals
Top seeded Sandstone downed No. 3 Carlton 9-0 this evening to advance to Saturday’s Albion Midget League playoff championship game.
Omer Fugate hurled a one hit shutout with 13 strikeouts.
Drew Pritchard and Elliot Trapiss both had three hits to lead the Sandstone attack.
Sandstone took the lead for good in the first inning on a two-run single by Brayden LaMartina which followed singles by Pritchard and Trapiss.
Keeping the momentum, Sandstone quickly added four runs in the second inning as Pritchard and Fugate both banged out two-run singles.
A three run fourth inning, which featured a double by Pritchard and single by Trapiss, capped off the evening for Sandstone.
In a losers bracket contest Rotary was leading Barre/Elba in the fourth inning when stormy weather halted play. The contest is scheduled to be completed tomorrow evening. The winner will then take on Carlton on Thursday evening in the losers bracket final. The victor will advance to Saturday’s championship game.
