Russo sparks Rams to win over Mustangs
Sparked both on the mound and at the plate by junior Thomas Russo, Roy-Hart posted a key 2-1 victory over Medina at Vets Park this evening to open up a two game lead in the Niagara-Orleans League title race.
Staying undefeated at 6-0 Roy-Hart now holds a two game lead over Medina and Akron, both at 5-2.
On the mound, Russo hurled a 4 hitter with 17 strikeouts.
At the plate, he drove in both Roy-Hart runs with a triple in the fourth inning and a double in the sixth. Both hits drove in Brayden Hy who had reached on a single each time.
Medina’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a double by Zach Fike who had three of the Mustangs hits.
Russo got out of further trouble in the sixth with an inning ending strikeout and then closed out the victory by striking out the side in the seventh.
Medina pitcher Aidan Paul also had a strong outing on the mound allowing 4 hits with 14 strikeouts.
The two teams will meet again at Gasport on Friday at 4:45 p.m.
