Roy-Hart spikers best Medina

Jumping out to a two set lead at the outset, Roy-Hart went on to defeat visiting Medina 25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-17 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League volleyball match.

In the other N-O matches, defending champion Albion (4-0) defeated visiting Akron (1-1) 25-12, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15 and Newfane (1-2) downed CSAT (0-3) 25-8, 25-5, 25-1.

Roy-Hart took the opening set 25-19 as Olivia Verholzer had a key run of six straight service points (15-20) to put the Lady Rams up 20-10.

Verholzer also had a big run of seven straight service points (2-8) to put the Lady Rams on top to stay in the second set. Savoy Laubacker served up the final three points registering an ace for point 25 as Skyler Christopher registered a spiking kill for point 24.

However, Medina came battling back to take the third set 25-20 as Je’ne Brown had three kills and a block to polish off four of the final seven points. Megan O’Keefe registered a service ace for the final point.

Earlier in the set. Carley Schultz served up points 4-6 and 21-23 and Emily Kams 9-14 for the Mustangs.

Roy-Hart though rebounded to take the fourth set 25-17 and close out the match.

Leading 13-11, Roy-Hart opened up a little breathing room as Christopher served up points 14-17, a run which included two service aces and a kill by Bea Bacon. Bacon also served up points 22-24 to give the Lady Rams a 24-15 lead.

Vorholzer had a total of 21 service points and 21 digs, Bacon 8 kills and 26 blocks, Brewer 13 assists and 72 sets, Laubacker 4 kills and Denise Ulrich 11 digs.

Brown had 7 blocks and 6 kills, Kams 16 assists and O’Keefe 16 digs for the Mustangs.

Roy-Hart is now 2-1 and Medina 1-2 in N-O action.

Megan O’Keefe returns a serve for Medina.

Faith Morgan had 7 kills, Maddy Adams 10 aces and 24 consecutive service points and Madison Wolcott 8 aces and 2 kills to set the pace for Newfane.
