Roy-Hart nips Albion, Medina romps
Roy-Hart turned back a late Albion rally to nip the host Purple Eagles 55-53 this evening in a Niagara-Orlesns League boys basketball game.
Medina meanwhile romped to a 76-45 N-O victory at Barker.
Roy-Hart built up a nine point, 48-39, advantage early in the fourth quarter after a three by Ben Maynard and buckets by Andy Xapsos and Matt Borel.
A rebound basket by Justin Heschke, along with a jumper by Jacob Bruning and two free throws by Xapsos, kept the Rams up by eight, 54-46, with just under a minute to go.
However, Allbion battled back to within one at 54-53 after a basket by Evan Pappalardo along with a layup off a turnover and a three by Brady Meakin and several missed Roy-Hart free throw attempts.
The Purple Eagles though could not pull even as a free throw by Xapsos with seven seconds remaining closed out the Rams win.
Xapsos finished with 17, Heschke 12, Maynard 9, Bruning 7, Chris Anderson 6 and Borel and Tim Moriarity 2 each.
Tommy Mattison led Albion with 18 as Pappalardo added 13, Meakin 8, Chase Hall 7, Kory Reynolds 5 and Manwell Taylor 2.
Roy-Hart led 14-11 after one period but Albion rallied into a 25-25 tie at the half.
Roy-Hart moved back out to a 41-37 advantage at the three-quarter mark as Heschke scored 7 points, Xapsos 5 and Maynard and Bruning both hit threes to lead the Rams in the third period.
Roy-Hart is now 2-0 and Albion 1-1 in N-O action.
Medina 76, Barker 45
Medina roared out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and went on to defeat host Barker 76-45 to go to 2-0 in N-O competition.
Jalin Cooper scored 9 to lead the Mustangs first quarter uprising.
Medina went on to hold leads of 35-18 at the half and 58-36 at the three-quarter mark.
Cooper, Tyler Ames and Jared Zinkievich each tallied 4 in the second quarter.
Cooper and Daryl Haynes then both netted 6 in the third.
Cooper finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds and Ames 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Justin Morgan added 8 points, Brad McPherson 7 and Haynes and Zinkievich 6 each for the Mustangs.
Nate Luckman scored 21 and Eddie Wasnock 11 for Barker which is now 1-1 in N-O action.
Wilson 55, CSAT 36
Wilson improved to 2-1 in N-O competition by posting a 55-36 win over CSAT which slips to 0-2.
Ryan Bradley poured in 27 points to spearhead the attack for Wilson which led 14-8 after one period, 24-13 at the half and 38-17 at the three-quarter mark.
