Roy-Hart girls claim tourney title
Rebounding from an early two goal deficit, Roy-Hart battled back to nip LeRoy 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout Saturday night in the championship game of the Holley girls soccer tournament.
Sophia LaPort scored the game winning goal in the sudden death shootout for Roy-Hart which improves to 4-0 on the season.
Down 2-0 early, Roy-Hart rallied into a 3-2 lead as Emma Lindke scored off an assist from Amber Villella and then Ava Bligh tallied twice.
However, LeRoy pulled even at 3-3 with a goal in the final minute and a half.
Neither team could score in the overtime periods or in the first round of the shootout sending the contest into a sudden death shootout where LaPort’s tally won it for the Lady Rams.
Roy-Hart goalie Marguerite Loughrey earned the tourney’s defensive MVP award while Bligh received the offensive MVP award. Loughrey, Bligh, Lindke and Villella were all named to the All-Tournamnet team.
In the consolation game, Holley nipped Greece Olympia 1-0 on a first half goal by Riley Sander as Olivia Radford earned the assist.
Madison Papaj earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Hawks.
Newfane wins Tonawanda Tourney
Newfane nipped rival Wilson 3-2 Saturday in the championship game of the Dan Durick Tournament at Tonawanda.
Tourney MVP Chad Gilson, Trevor Moreland and Mateo May each scored a goal for Newfane which improves to 3-0.
