Roy-Hart, Barker girls ousted

Scoring four quick runs in the first inning, No. 3 seed Fredonia went on to defeat top seeded Roy-Hart 8-3 in the Section VI Class B2 championship game this afternoon at Niagara-Wheatfield.

In a Class C semifinal, Chautauqua Lake downed Barker 4-2.

Fredonia combined a double, triple and two singles in the decisive first inning uprising.

Roy-Hart did cut the deficit to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the third inning but could get no closer. Taylor Fry had an RBI single to highlight that rally.

Roy-Hart’s only other run came on a solo home by Lindsay Yates in the seventh inning.

Taylor Fry, Maddie Fry and Maddy Glena each had 2 hits for the Niagara-Orleans League champion Lady Rams.

Class C Semifinal

Chautauqua Lake 4, Barker 2

No. 5 seed Chautauqua Lake used a three-run third inning scoring burst to erase a 2-0 deficit and key a 4-2 victory over No. 8 Barker in a Section VI Class C semifinal at Ripley.

Mary Rounds, Erika Moeller, Sabrina Harris, Chelsea Stratton and Courtney Bodine each had a hit for Barker.

In the circle, Moeller allowed only 4 hits and struck out 5.

Track

N-O Steeplechase

Barker’s Jack Hopkins and Akron’s Margo Henley scored victories in the steeplechase at Starpoint this afternoon which concluded the Niagara-Orleans All-League track meet.

Hopkins posted a winning time of 10:44.6 and Henley a time of 7:36.16.

The Medina duo of Austin and Dan Heil finished second and third respectively in the boys competition as did Newfane’s Nina Burkhard and Albion’s Meredith Patterson in the girl’s race.
