Royalton man charged with criminally negligent homicide after sister’s fatal overdose

ROYALTON – Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour today announced the arrest of Daniel E. Wells, 29, of Royalton, on a charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide.

Wells is accused of not seeking timely medical care for his sister, Christyna Wells, 34, of Oakfield, who overdosed on November 10, 2017, causing her death. Wells drove his sister from the City of Niagara Falls, where she overdosed, to the 9400 block of Ridge Road in Royalton, before summoning medical assistance.

Wells was arraigned on Tuesday in Lockport Town Court by Justice Cheryl Antkowiak. He was released on his own recognizance. Wells has a return date of June 14 at 5 p.m. in Royalton Town Court.

He is currently being held on no bail at the Niagara County Jail on unrelated charges. The arrest is the result as a joint investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Niagara County Drug Task Force.
