Roy-Hart tops Akron to clinch tie for N-O diamond title; Medina trims Wilson

Clinching at least a tie for a third straight title, Roy-Hart avenged an early season 5-3 loss by downing runner-up Akron 11-2 this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game.

Roy-Hart improves to 9-1 with two games remaining while Akron slips to 8-3.

Leading by a narrow 1-0 margin, Roy-Hart broke the game wide open by erupting for seven runs in the third inning on a bunt single by Gavyn Boyle, a fielders choice play off the bat of Charlie Brigham, a two-run single by Walker Samanka, an error and a two-run double by Al Xapsos.

A leadoff single by Xapsos followed by a walk and a bunt single by winning pitcher Jake Bruning loaded the bases to set up the threat.

The Rams later capped off the win by scoring three times in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Xapsos and Jake Bruning and a triple by Charlie Bruning.

Xapsos finished with a total of 4 hits, Jake Bruning 3 and Samanka 2.

Jake Bruning hurled the first six innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 10.

Medina 7, Wilson 3
Staying in the chase for a share of the N-O title, Medina bested host Wilson 7-3.

Chris Goyette went the distance on the mound scattering 5 hits and striking out 6 as Medina improves to 7-3.

Brian Fry, Nate Sherman, Brett Riemer, Goyette and Matt Saj each had a pair of hits to lead the Medina attack.

Trailing 2-1, Medina took the lead for good by scoring twice in the sixth inning as Sherman and Riemer had hits.

The Mustangs then locked up the win by scoring four times in the top of the seventh on singles by Saj and Seefeldt, a double by Fry and a triple by Sherman.

The loss drops Wilson to 3-5.

Albion 11, Aquinas 9

Albion defeated host Aquinas 11-9 in a non league game scoring three times in the seventh on a two-run triple by Liam Ward and an RBI single by Vinnie Zona.

The Purple Eagles got back into the game by tallying five times in the sixth inning as Ward had a two-run triple, Thomas Furmanski an RBI double and Bryce Pritchard an RBI single.

Ward finished with 4 hits, Pritchard and Michael DiCureia 3 and Addison Christ 2.

Newfane 11, Barker 4

Newfane (2-9) downed Barker (0-12) 11-4 in an N-O contest as Max Webber hit a home run, winning pitcher Matt DiTullio and Dave Bunn both had triples and Garrett Srock 3 hits.

Alexander 15, Kendall 12 (10)

Alexander pushed across three runs in the 10th inning to outlast host Kendall 15-12 in a Genesee Region League game.

Kendall tied the game at 12-12 by scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh highlighted by a two-run single by Brian Shaw.

Jeremy Browe had 3 hits and Mason Kuhn and Jon Rath 2 each for Kendall. Mickey Gardner also had a triple for the Eagles as Kuhn and Browe both had doubles among their base raps.
