Roy-Hart girls top Medina for first N-O win
Snapping a season opening three league game losing streak, Roy-Hart bested host Medina 44-33 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans girls game.
Emma Lindke took game high scoring honors with 15 and Taylor Fry netted 12 to lead the way for Roy-Hart. Kendra Hill added 7, Ava Bligh 6, Rielly Albee 3 and Sarah Bascom 1 for the Lady Rams.
Medina which slips to 0-3 in the league, was led by Holly Heil with 12 as Molley Gross added 9, Emily Kams 6 and Maddy Winters, Nicole Blount 2 and Rowan Hamer 2 each.
Getting excellent results from an aggressive, pressing defense, Roy-Hart forced 10 turnovers in the opening period sparking the Lady Rams out to a 14-3 lead. Four of the Lady Rams five baskets during that stretch came off turnovers including three buckets by Lindke and a three by Hill.
Heil caught fire for Medina in the second quarter scoring 10 points on three jumpers and two layups rallying the Mustangs back to within one at 18-17.
Roy-Hart though gained a little breathing room as Fry hit a three at the buzzer giving the Lady Rams a 21-17 lead at the break.
A jumper by Blount kept Medina within three, 23-20, early in the third period but Roy-hart countered with a 13-4 run to close the quarter.
Bligh and Hill both had a pair of buckets to lead that uprising which also included a three by Albee and a jumper by Fry to vault the Lady Rams out to a 12 point, 36-24, advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Medina did pull back to within five, 36-31, early in the final period after layup by Gross, a three by Kams and a jumper by Hmner but the Mustangs could get no closer.
Turning back that challenge, the Lady Rams closed with an 8-2 run to lock up the victory. A layup by Lindke and a jumper by Bligh highlighted that surge which also included three free throws by Fry.
Lima Christian 32, Holley 23
Sam Barniak had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Jade Underwood 6 points and 7 rebounds for host Holley in the Lady Hawks 32-23 non league loss to Lima Christian.
