Roy-Hart downs visiting Akron to hold N-O lead; Albion trims Barker

Maintaining a one game lead, Roy-Hart pulled away in the second half to defeat visiting Akron 70-45 in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball make-up game this evening.

Front-running Roy-Hart improves to 7-2 and stays a game ahead of 6-3 Newfane.

Aiden Petrie poured in a game high 33 points to lead the way for Roy-Hart. Jamel Johnson Jr. added 13, Brandon DiNeri 8, Vinny Buscarino and Nate Beyer 5 and John Conley and Dom Beyer 3.

Donny Kreher scored 16, Andrew Romesser 10, Chris Bergman 7 and Trace Hill and Steven Doktor 5 for Akron which slips to 3-6.

Leading by a narrow two point, 28-26, margin at the half, Roy-Hart began to pull away with a 20-11 third period scoring edge.

Petrie scored 10 and Johnson 7 to lead that uprising which put the Rams up by 11, 48-37, at the three-quarter mark.

Roy-Hart then put a lock on the victory by outscoring Akron 22-8 in the final period as Petrie, DiNeri, Dom Beyer and Nate Beyer all hit threes.

The Rams jumped out to a 18-11 first period lead. Petrie scored 12, including a pair of threes, during that stretch which also included threes by DiNeri and Conley.

Akron though used a 15-10 second period scoring edge to rally back to within two, 28-26, at the half.

Kreher scored 9 on two threes and a three-point play during that rally which also included threes by Hill and Doktor.

Roy-Hart though opened the third period with a 8-0, including 5 by Petrie and 3 by Johnson, to quickly regain a 10 point, 36-26 advantage.

The Rams then closed the quarter with a 10-2 run, including 5 by Petrie and a three by Buscarino, to take an 11 point, 48-37 lead.

Consecutive threes by Dom Beyer, Petrie and DiNeri to open the final period then quickly upped the advantage to 20, 57-37, and break the contest wide open.

Albion 51, Barker 47
Making it three N-O wins in a row, Albion edged past visiting Barker 51-47 in a make-up contest.

The Purple Eagles held a slender 48-47 lead when Aquil Gaffney hit a three with 20 seconds remaining to close out the win.

Jahmeek Riley scored 14 as Gaffney and Caleb Fox both netted 12 for Albion which led 41-35 at the three-quarter mark.

Brad Cantell took game high honors with 23 for Barker which led 22-21 at the half.

The game was the third road contest in as many games for Barker which next hosts Albion on Friday.

Albion is now 3-6 and Barker 4-6.
