Roy-Hart downs Arts in sectional opener
Taking charge in the third quarter, No. 11 seeded Roy-Hart went on to defeat visiting No. 14 Buffalo Arts 66-54 this evening in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 boys basketball playoffs.
Leading 25-20 at the half, Roy-Hart used a 20-12 third period scoring edge to key the win.
Rhett Goodwin hit two threes as Canyon Wood and Jon Gillings each had one and Tom Ragonese chipped in with 4 points to lead that surge which vaulted the Rams out to a 45-32 advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Wood finished with 11 as Goodwin and Ragonese both added 10, Reed Albee 9 and Aiden Petrie 8.
However, Roy-Hart will have little time to savor the win as the Rams must visit No. 6 Cleveland Hill in the next round at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Honeoye 72, Kendall 61 OT
Host No. 5 seed Honeoye used a 16-5 scoring edge in the overtime period, including 8 of 10 from the free throw line, to earn a 72-61 win over visiting No. 12 Kendall in the opening round of the Section V Class D1 playoffs.
Kendall sent the game into overtime on a free throw by Dale Steffen which knotted the contest at 56-56.
Derek Edick had 23 and Steffen 18 to lead Kendall.
RAC 72, Holley 67
No. 5 seed Rochester Charter Academy used a 24-17 fourth period scoring edge to down No. 12 Holley 72-67 in the opening round of the Section V Class C1 playoffs.
Carson Major scored 22, Broek Ostrom 12, Jake Norman 10 and Kohl Morgan 7 for Holley which trailed 37-32 at the half.
