Roy-Hart bests Holley in tourney opener

Moving on top to stay with a late first quarter scoring burst, the host Rams went on to defeat Holley 79-44 this evening in the opening round of the Roy-Hart boys basketball tournament.

Breaking away from an early 7-7 tie, Roy-Hart put together a 10-0 run to close the opening quarter highlighted by threes by Jacob Bruning and Brendon Hess to open up a 17-7 advantage.

Back-to-back threes by Charlie Brigham and a three-point play by Matt Borel in the second quarter helped keep Roy-Hart up 32-21 at the half.

The Rams then broke the contest wide open with a 26-12 third period scoring edge.

Bruning had 8 points, including a three, Borel 6 on three layups and DJ Davis a 3 to highlight that uprising.

Borel finished with 23 and Bruning 15 as Brigham and Noah Kindron both had 8, Davis 6, Justin Czaja 5, Jon Huntington and Paul Raganese 4, Brendon Hess 3, Eric Fitch 2 and Tim Moriarity 1.

Derek McArthur scored 16 and Dylan Hillabush 12 for Holley as Chris Balys, Patrick Bower and Ryan Andres 4, Isaiah Flow and Brandon Dillenbeck 2.

Roy-Hart will now face Oakfield-Alabama in the championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday while Holley will take on Tonawanda in the consolation game at 2:30 p.m. Oakfield-Alabama romped past Tonawanda 72-42 in the other semifinal.
