Roy-Hart, Barker, Akron post shutouts

Shutouts were the rule in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey competition this afternoon as Roy-Hart nipped Newfane 1-0, Barker blanked Medina 5-0 and Akron bested Kenmore 9-0.

Sydney Newton scored the lone goal for Roy-Hart in the first half off an assist from Angelina Ciarfella.

Jamie Bower earned the shutout in goal as Roy-Hart improves to 7-3 while Newfane slips to 2-8.

Leading by a narrow 1-0 margin at the half, Barker pulled way from Medina in the second half on 2 goals by Lydia Dewart and 1 each by Casey A’Hearn and Natalie Menz. Ciara Gregoire netted the Lady Raiders first half tally.

Barker is now 7-2 and Medina 1-9.

Front-running defending champion Akron stayed perfect at 9-0 as Heather Cummings scored 3 goals and Abby Stone and Julia Diebel each added 2 to lead the Lady Tigers past Kenmore which drops to 2-7.

Wilson edged past Nichols 4-3 in a non league game on goals by Maddie Mokarski, Liz Soles, Olivia Mitchell ad Erin Boyle.
