Roy-Hart and Barker win field hockey sectional openers; Eden upends Medina

Barker and Roy-Hart both scored victories this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class C field hockey playoffs.

No. 4 seed Roy-Hart defeated No. 5 Wilson 4-2 and No. 2 Barker blanked No. 7 Newfane 10-0.

In the other quarterfinal contest, No. 6 Eden upended No. 3 Medina at Vets Park.

Thursday’s semifinals will now have Roy-Hart vs. No. 1 Akron at Alden at 5 p.m. and Eden at Barker.

Roy-Hart 4, Wilson 2
Adella Dukes scored 2 goals for Roy-Hart as Sam Sperduti and Cheyenne Stilwell each netted 1 to advance Roy-Hart to the semis.

Barker 10, Newfane 0
Nine players scored goals for Barker as Miya Goodale netted 2 and Mia Herman, Kenzi Dodge, Alexis Weeks, Alexa Zglinicki, Madeline Pavlock, Keira Dalton and Hailey Dodge each netted 1.

Eden 6, Medina 5
Trailing 4-1 at the half, Medina rallied to outscore Eden 4-2 in the second half but could not pull even as the visiting Lady Raiders claimed the narrow 6-5 win.

Brooke Moden and Iyla Lilleby each scored 2 goals in the second half to lead the Mustangs comeback bid.

Adeline Castricone scored midway trough the opening quarter to give Medina a 1-0 lead but Eden answered with 4 straight goals to take the lead for good by a 4-1 margin at the half.
