Roy-Hart, Albion win N-O softball openers
Defending champion Roy-Hart defeated Akron 14-5 and Albion downed Barker 11-4 in Niagara-Orleans League softball openers this afternoon.
Leading 4-0, Roy-Hart broke the game wide open by erupting for 10 runs in the fifth inning highlighted by a grand slam home run by Maddie Fry.
Fry had 4 hits on the day and winning pitcher Sam Choate 3. In the circle, Choate struck out 7.
Leading by a narrow 4-3 margin, Albion put together a big seven run sixth inning scoring burst to lock up the win over Barker. Aly Knaak had a two-run double and Bryne Dysard an RBI single to highlight that error filled inning.
Knaak and Dysard both had 2 hits on the day.
Depew 6, Medina 5 (8)
In a non league game, Depew nipped visiting Median 6-5 in 8 innings.
Medina tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Abi Neuman.
Lacey Kenward also had a double and triple for Medina which next hosts Albion on Wednesday.
