Roy-Hart ‘9’ downs Albion and Akron

A lone first inning run proved to be just enough as Roy-Hart nipped Albion 1-0 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League game at Gasport.

Keeping the momentum, Roy-Hart then downed visiting Akron 8-3 to complete a 10-2 N-O campaign.

Thomas Russo III singled in the game’s only run for Roy-Hart against Albion  in the opening frame on Monday before stormy weather halted play early in the third inning.

When play resumed this afternoon in the third inning Russo pitched five innings of shutout ball for the Rams allowing 2 hits and striking out 7.

Albion, which finishes the N-O season at 3-9,  had a runner thrown out at home in the third and another thrown out at second in the fourth. Russo then faced only 10 batters over the last three innings striking out 7.

Roy-Hart left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings.

Roy-Hart 8, Akron 3

Trailing 2-1, Roy-Hart took the lead for good against Akron by scoring five runs in the third inning.

Russo had three hits and John Conley two for the Rams. Russo’s hits included a triple while Conley, Noah Stern and Zach Durwiger all had doubles.

Ryan Mettler pitched five innings for the Rams allowing 5 hits and striking out 6.

Final N-O Standings: Medina 12-0, Roy-Hart 10-2, Akron 8-4, Wilson 5-7, Newfane 4-8, Albion 3-9, Barker 0-12.
