Rotary trims Vets in playoff opener

No. 4 seed Rotary edged past No. 5 Vets 7-5 this evening in the quarterfinals of the Albion Midget League playoffs.
Rotary jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by scoring once in the second on a hit by Jacob Edwards and twice in the third on a single by Simon Elision and a double by Zaire Reed.
Vets got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on an RBI hit by Seth Janus but Rotary answered right back with a two-run single by Dallas Ecker and an RBI hit by Edwards to go up 6-1.
However, Vets came battling back to within 6-4 on a three-run single by Al’Tamir Brown.
Rotary made it 7-4 on a single by Edwards.
Vets again battled back on an RBI single by Kyle Woolston but could get no closer than 7-5.
Shawn Pelligrino and Reed shared the pitching duties for Rotary which next faces top seeded Barre in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.
