Rotary trims St. Mary’s/ Barre, Medina stays undefeated, Sandstone scores two wins

Rotary edged St. Mary’s/Barre 5-2 in a Orleans County Short Season League 12U Division baseball game this past Thursday at the Midget League Field.

Both pitchers, Lucas Powley for Rotary and Charlie Ward for St. Mary’s/Barre, went the distance on the mound with each registering 9 strikeouts.

Powley, Kaiden Froman and Noah Harrison each had two hits for Rotary.

Ward also had a hit for St. Mary’s/Barre.

Division leading Medina improved to 6-0 by downing host Elba 6-3 on Thursday.

Medina scored three times in both the third and sixth innings to build up a 6-0 lead.  Hadrian Batista and Ryan Pegelow both had a hit and scored in the fourth inning as did Joe Reese and Lathan McEwen-Miller in the sixth.

On the mound, Aleks Seefeldt had 7 strikeouts in three innings.

Sandstone had a big week scoring a pair of victories 15-2 over St. Mary’s/Barre and 12-7 over Carlton.

Josh Showberlein had three hits and Jonah Elsenheimer and Brayden Lindke two each in the win over St. Mary’s/Barre. Elsenheimer’s hits included a three-run triple which keyed a five run fourth inning and Lindke’a a two-run single in the sixth.

On the mound Elliott Trapiss registered 13 strikeouts for Sandstone.

Nate Gibson had a single and double for St. Mary’s Barre.

In a sea-saw battle, Sandstone erased a 7-6 deficit by scoring six times in the fifth inning to earn the win over Carlton.  A leadoff home run by Elsenheimer ignited that uprising which also included a two-run double by Trapiss and singles by Showberlein and Lindke.

Showberlein finished with 4 hits, Trapiss 3 and Elsenheimer and Lindke 2 each. Elsenheimer’s hits also include a three-run double in the first inning.

Noah Kowalski had 4 hits and Drew Boyce and Donovan Brayley 2 each for Carlton.  Kowalski’s hits included a triple to highlight a three-run first inning and a two-run double in the fifth which gave Carlton its last lead at 7-6.

Standings: Medina 6-0, Rotary 4-2, Carlton 3-2, Elba 2-4, Sandstone 2-4, At. Mary’s/Barre 0-5.
