RMB loses thrilling playoff hockey game
The No. 6 seeded Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Club Hockey team dropped a narrow 4-2 decision to No. 3 Wilson/Newfane Tuesday in the opening round of the Western New York Club Hockey League playoffs.
Playing their best game of the season, RBM saw the game go to the final 1:17 minute of the final period.
W/N opened the scoring at the 12:41 point of the first period, but RBM scored twice in that period for the 2-1 lead. Freshman Dayton Ruppel (Akron) scored unassisted and Dominic Peracciny (R-H) hit the power play slap-shot from the blue line with Ryan Mettler (R-H) getting the assist.
There was no scoring in the second, but W/N tied the game early in the third. Later, at the 1:17 point, they scored the game-winner, adding an empty net goal with just 46 seconds left in the game.
“The entire team improved a great deal over the course of the season,” said the RBM coaches. “And losing only four of nineteen players, the future looks promising, especially since ten of the players are eighth or ninth graders, and there are currently three young goaltenders.”
