Roy-Hart scores key victory over Akron to grab N-O field hockey lead

Taking over sole possession of first place, Roy-Hart shutout defending co-champion Akron 2-0 in a key early season Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game this afternoon at Middleport.

Lexi Lovewell scored what proved to be the game winning goal with 8 minutes to go in the first half off an assist from Ashley Hill.

Danielle Kozma later added a big insurance goal midway through the second half as Sam Choate earned the assist.

Jamie Bower made 3 key saves in goal for Roy-Hart in the first half.

“It’s a huge win for us,” said Roy-Hart Coach Colleen Albee.

The victory keeps Roy-Hart perfect at 4-0 while Akron slips to 4-1.

In the other N-O games, Barker improved to 3-1 with a 6-0 win over Kenmore (1-5) and Wilson evened its record at 2-2 with a 2-0 win over Newfane (0-5).

Lena Fazzolari, Rachel Hurtgam, Emily Wagner and Katrina Clare all scored goals in the first half for Barker which also got second half tallies from Ciara Gregoire and Natalie Bruning.

Emily Mucio and Hannah Day each scored a goal for Wilson.
