Retired priest who once worked at St. Mary’s in Medina accused of abuse

BUFFALO – Father Joseph Vatter, a retired priest in the Western New York Diocese, has been placed on administrative leave after an allegation he sexually abused a child, the Diocese announced.

Bishop Michael W. Fisher said the diocese is investigation the allegation. Prior to being placed on leave, Father Vatter was occasionally celebrating Masses at various diocesan churches. He previously served at St. Mary’s in Medina.

The diocese said this administrative leave is for the purpose of investigation and does not imply any determination as to the truth or falsity of the complaint.
