Recco wins third Section V title

Lyndonville High senior Tony Recco (120) captured his third Section V title in four years by scoring a pair of shutout decision victories today at SUNY Brockport.

In earning a berth in the upcoming state championships, Recco blanked Adam West of Pal-Mac 4-0 in the semifinals and then shutout Jon Lauricella of LeRoy 3-0 in his title bout.

Recco, who also earned a Section V title in both his freshman and junior years, scored a pair of pins in 36 seconds and 3:18 in the first two rounds on Friday.

Lyndonville also had a pair of second place finishers in Jeff Gress Jr. (106) and Dustin Joy (145).

Gress scored a 3-2 decision win over Matt Caccamise of Wayne in the semifinals but then dropped a 7-2 decision to Dylan Walker of Warsaw in the title bout.

On Friday, Gress opened the competition with a pair of lightning quick pins of 41 and 47 seconds.

Dustin Joy decisioned Robert Lukaszonas of Geneseo 5-3 in the semifinals but then dropped a 10-5 decision to Corey Farrell of Warsaw in the finals. He opened the competition with a pair of pins on Friday.

Holley had a pair of third place finishers in Martin Beadle (145) and Lucas Silvis (220).

Beadle decisioned Lukaszonas 3-1 and Silvis decisioned Andrew Cook of Lyons 11-6 in the matches for third place honors.

Lyndonville also had Chris McDonald (138) place fifth and Tom Follman (152), Devon Joy (160) and Frankie Carrasquillo all place sixth.

In the Section VI state qualifier at East Aurora, Medina’s Brennen Callara went 3-1 to earn third place honors. He pinned Isaiah Johnson of Cheektowaga in 2:36 in the match for third place honors.
