Rebounding from a heartbreaking overtime loss in the semifinals, Lyndonville’s Tony Recco (113) battled back this afternoon with a pair of consolation round victories to earn third place honors at the state wrestling championships being held at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Seeded No. 4, Recco started his successful comeback with s third period pin over Ryan O’Rouke of Adirondack (Section 3) in 4:37. He then shut out second seeded Tito Colon of Dunkirk (Section 6) 6-0 to earn third place honors.

“Tony did really well coming back like that,” said Lyndonville Coach Jeff Gress. “In the consolation semis he wrestled a real nice match. He really dominated and it was nice to see him comeback like that. Then he shut the second seed out for third place. He had a real strong finish. He just did a real nice job as a competitor to come back like that.”

Recco, who captured a state title in 2012 but missed last years’ state qualifier and state championship due to a knee injury, opened the competition with first period pin and a triple overtime decision victory on Friday to advance to the semis where he dropped a narrow 2-0 overtime decision this morning.

Recco finishes the season with a 48-4 record and boosts his career mark to 152-13.

Newfane’s Nate Martin likewise rebounded from a semifinal round loss to score a pair of consolation round victories and earn third place honors at 145.
