Rams surge to chilly win over Mustangs
A big fifth inning scoring burst keyed defending champion Roy-Hart to an 8-1 victory over Medina in a Niagara-Orleans League baseball game at frigid Vets Park this afternoon.
Trailing 1-0, Roy-Hart exploded for five runs in the decisive fifth inning to take the lead for good.
Run producing singles by winning pitcher Jake Bruning, Gavyn Boyle and Charlie Brigham highlighted the decisive uprising, A single by Noah Hardy and a walk ignited the threat which also included a single by Ben Schwab.
The Rams then put a lock on the victory by adding three insurance runs in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Walker Samanka and an RBI double by Karson Grover.
Jake Bruning allowed 4 hits and struck out 7 in six and one-third innings of work on the mound. Charlie Bruning came on to hurl the final inning and two-thirds registering 1 strikeout.
The Rams defense also had a big day as Boyle made a nifty diving catch in centerfield to end the second inning with two Medina runners aboard. Second baseman Brigham later triggered a double play in the seventh inning. Catcher Noah Hardy also made two big plays on wild pitches quickly retrieving the ball and throwing to the pitcher covering to get Medina runners out at home first in the third inning and then in the sixth.
Brian Fry, who had two hits on the day, doubled and scored Medina’s lone run in the first inning. AJ Seefeldt also had a double for the Mustangs.
Chris Goyette pitched the first six innings for Medina allowing 7 hits and striking out 8.
Roy-Hart is now 3-0 and Medina 1-2 in N-O action.
The other two N-O games, Albion at Wilson and barker at Akron, were postponed. The Lyndonville vs. Oakfield-Alabama Genesee Region League game was also postponed.
