Rams post key N-O win over Mustangs
Staying in the thick of the title race, Roy-Hart blanked Medina 3-0 in a key Niagara-Orleans League game at Vets Park this afternoon.
Thomas Russo had a big day both on the mound and at the plate to lead Roy-Hart. On the mound he scattered 3 hits and struck out 10. At the plate he belted a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the third to give the Rams an early 2-0 lead. A double by Jake Gould set up the third inning scoring opportunity.
Dawson Draper plated Roy-Hart’s third run with a two out double in the fifth frame.
Medina also had a good early scoring chance getting two runners aboard in the first inning on a walk and a single by Aidan Paul. However, the Mustangs had the leadoff runner tagged out at home wiping out the scoring threat.
The Mustangs only other threat came in the sixth getting runners to second and third after a single by Tyler Kroening, a walk and a fly out. However, Russo quickly got out of trouble on an inning ending infield ground out.
Paul pitched six innings for the Mustangs giving up 4 hits and striking out 13.
Roy-Hart is now 6-2 and Medina 4-2 in the N-O title race as idle Akron, which is 4-1, takes over sole possession of first place.
Medina next visits Roy-Hart at 4:45 p.m. Monday.
