Rams outlast Lakemen in double overtime; Panthers down Purple Eagles
Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball action got off to an exciting start this evening with a marathon contest as Roy-Hart outlasted host Wilson 59-54 in double overtime.
Roy-Hart sent the contest into overtime on a three by Jon Gillings with 12 seconds to go in regulation time which knotted the contest at 43-43.
Gillings then hit another clutch three as time expired in the first overtime to retie the contest at 50-50.
The Rams then outscored the Lakemen 9-4 in the decisive second overtime as Aiden Petrie scored 5 and Tom Ragonese 4.
Roy-Hart had trailed by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter before rallying to force overtime. Rhett Goodwin had five points, including a big three, to help key the Rams rally.
Petrie finished with 18 and Ragonese 13 while Michael Miller had 16 for Wilson.
Newfane 54, Albion 35
In a rematch between last year’s N-O co-champions Newfane downed visiting Albion 54-35.
Jeremy Foltz scored a game high 18 points and Trevor Heschke added 13 to spark the Newfane attack.
Bailey Blanchard scored 16 and Damien Lattimer 8 to lead Albion.
Up 22-16 at the half, Newfane used an 18-11 third period scoring edge to open up a 40-27 advantage at the three-quarter mark. Foltz led that Panthers surge with 8 points.
