Rams nip Mustangs on basket at the buzzer
A basket at the buzzer earned Roy-Hart a thrilling 43-41 victory over Medina in a Niagara-Orleans League game at Medina this evening.
Rem Albee scored on a driving layup at the buzzer to give Roy-Hart the narrow win and a sweep of the season home-and-home series with Medina. The Rams edged the Mustangs 63-60 in the earlier season meeting at Roy-Hart.
Albee had a total of 7 points in the decisive final stanza including a three which put Roy-Hart up 41-39 after Medina had taken its first lead of the evening at 39-38 on a basket by Jerrell Nealy followed by a free throw by Justin Pitts.
Medina retied tied the game at 41-41 on a rebound basket by Nealy with five seconds to go setting the stage for Albee’s dramatic game winning buzzer basket.
Dan Aquilina scored 14 and Albee 12 to lead Roy-Hart as Jayden Swygert added 6, Brayden Ricker 4, Jackson Webber 3 and Matt Aquilina and Sam Bruning 2 each.
Nealy led Medina with 16 as Pitts had 9, Elijah Doxey and Cole Callard 6 and Trevon Shine 4.
The Rams held narrow leads of 11-7 after the first quarter, 26-24 at the half and 32-30 after three quarters.
Roy-Hart is now 4-4 and Medina 3-3 in N-O action.
Newfane 64, Barker 33
Landon Braman scored 14, Nate Snow 13, Brayden Seitz 10 and Ben Dickinson grabbed off 14 rebounds to lead front-running (7-0) Newfane to 64-33 win over Barker (2-6).
Luey Castro led Barker with 16.
Leading 32-22 at the half, the Panthers used a big 17-3 third quarter scoring edge to break the game open. Braman netted 8 during that stretch.
Akron 67, Wilson 25
Building up a 27-13 half-time advantage, Akron went on to down Wilson 67-25 and stay just a half game off the pace at 8-1.
Brale Abrams scored 17 and Ben Gerstung 14 to lead the Tigers.
Aidan Neumann had 8 for Wilson which slips to 2-8.
Alexander 80, Holley 40
Alexander roared out to a 43-12 half-time advantage and went on to defeat host Holley 80-40 in a Genesee Region League game.
Dylan Pohl poured in 31 to lead the Trojans.
Destin Kuyal scored 13 and Chris Mosier 10 for Holley.
Girls Basketball
Kendall 44, Rochester Prep 25
Ava LaMay scored 16 and Brooke Rodas 11 to lead Kendall to a 44-25 win over host Rochester Prep in a non league girls contest.
Kendall led 26-12 at the half.
