Rams cage tourney to highlight the upcoming week of local H.S. sports

Three local teams – Holley, Lyndonville and Roy-Hart – will be competing in the Rams Boys Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Middleport to highlight the upcoming week of area high school sports action.

Friday’s opening round will have Holley vs. Tonawanda at 5 p.m. followed by Lyndonville vs. Roy-Hart. The consolation and championship games will be held at 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday.

Holley will open its season by hosting Pembroke in a Genesee Region League contest on Monday while Lyndonville and Roy-Hart will both be in action on Tuesday. The Rams will host Cleve Hill in a non league game while the Tigers will visit Wheatland-Chili in a G-R contest.

The Medina girls basketball squad also faces a busy start to the week as the Mustangs visit Kendall on Monday and Global Concepts on Tuesday.

Niagara-Orleans League wrestling competition gets underway on Wednesday as Medina visits rival Allbion at 6 p.m. Defending champion Newfane will then visit Wilson and Barker/Roy-hart will host Akron on Thursday.

N-O swim competition also begins on Thursday with Medina at Newfane, Roy-Hart at Albion and Barker at Akron. The Roy-Hart boys squad has won the N-O championship the last nine years in a row while the Newfane girls team is the six time defending league champions.
