Ramparts open state hockey tourney with win
The Batavia Ramparts, top seed from Western New York, opened the New York State Amateur Hockey League Bantam Tier III Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Ogdensburg this afternoon at the Cornerstone Arena in Lockport.
Batavia will continue pool play tomorrow with two games, against White Plains in the morning and against Norfolk Norwood in the afternoon. Both games will be played at the Northtown Arena in Amherst.
Max Hutchins scored the opening goal in the first period for the Ramparts, but Ogdensburg tied the score.
In the next period, goals by Vince DiRisio and Alex Totten gave the Ramparts a two goal advantage.
Scoring in the final period were Jed Reese and Hutchins. Zach Howard earned the win in goal.
