Raiders return a good veteran nucleus

Anchored by a group of seven returnees, Barker will begin prepping for the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball season by hosting Kendall at 6 p.m. Monday.
Seniors Steven Class, Seth Gerhardt, Nathan Meza Ray, Jaret Black, Willard Nellist, Camren Szafranski and junior Brad Cantrell provide the varsity experience for the Raiders. Cantrell earned N-O All-League Honorable Mention.
Barker is also looking to junior Aidan Voss and juniors Louie Castro and Aidan Mescall.
“I’m expecting us to compete every night and I think we have the talent to do that,” said Coach Jake Haight. “I think we can play 10 guys which gives us good depth.”
The Raiders graduation losses included Joey Brandt, Shane Gerhardt, Cole Ecker, Logan Harris, Devonte Hill and Mick Guevara. Brandt and Gerhardt were both Honorable Mention All-League selections.
Barker, which is looking to improve upon last season’s 1-11 N-O record, will begin league competition by hosting defending champion Medina on January 4.
