Raiders, Rams score narrow N-O wins

Barker edged past visiting Newfane 72-68 and Roy-Hart nipped host Wilson 59-57 this evening in Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball action.

Leading by a narrow 48-46 margin at the three-quarter mark, Barker outscored Newfane 24-22 down the stretch as the Raiders made good on 9 of 11 free throw attempts.

Kyle Secore scored 8, Nate Luckman 7, Michael Snell 5 and Eddie Wasnock 4 for Barker in the decisive final quarter.

“It was a big win for us,” said first year Barker Coach Josh Kraft. “We kept our composure and made some key free throws in the fourth quarter.”

Luckman finished with a game high 28 points as Secore netted 15 and Wasnock and Snell 13 each.

Chad Gilson scored 20, Kyle DeVoogel 15 and Al Kramp 10 for Newfane.

Barker led 13-11 after one quarter and 34-23 at the half.

Both teams are now 2-4 in N-O action.

Roy-Hart 59, Wilson 57
Roy-Hart turned back a strong second half Wilson challenge to claim a narrow 59-57 victory and improve to 5-1 in N-O action.

Andy Xapsos scored 21, Chris Anderson 10 and Ben Maynard, Jacob Bruning and Justin Heschke 7 each to lead the way for Roy-Hart which led 14-10 after one period and 33-21 at the half.

Ryan Bradley scored 21, Alex Fox 12 and Connor Seeley 9 for Wilson.

The Lakemen closed the deficit to 47-39 at the three-quarter mark and then outscored the Rams 18-12 in the decisive final stanza to make the finish exciting.

The loss drops Wilson to 3-3.

Medina game rescheduled

The Akron at Medina game, which was postponed due to the weather,has been rescheduled for January 30 with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m.
