Raider netters set for N-O opener

Photo by Mike Wertman – Set to lead Barker into the Niagara-Orleans League tennis season is this veteran quartet of Sean Benoit, Emma Duffy, Tristan Payne and Brian Hefferon.

Finishing in the runner-up spot last spring at 9-3, Barker is scheduled to open the Niagara-Orleans League tennis at home Wednesday against Newfane.

Junior Sean Benoit, a first team N-O All-League honoree last spring, heads Barker’s veteran group which also includes juniors Brian Hefferon, Tristan Payne, Kyle Herian, Erik Herian and sophomore Emma Duffy.

The Raiders all underclassmen lineup also includes juniors Luz Bautista, Patricia Bautista, Brian Cogar, Paige Congi, Zachery Pisarski, Faiza Rahman and Victoria Westlake; sophomores, Maria Cabrera, Abigail Chavez, Paige Fudella, Ian Goodlander, Glen LaJoie and Angela Stewart and freshmen Serina Lawson and Brandon Lindke.

“We’ve got some important strength in our returning skill,” said Coach Mark Scofill. “Doubles will be key for us and who can maintain the net game.”

The Raiders key losses to graduation were first team All-League honoree Joey Devereaux, second team selection Zach Smolinsky and honorable mention pick Mike Schian.
