R-H wrestler is late state tourney entrant
Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Due to a withdrawal, Roy-Hart freshman Gavin Ciarfella (99) has become a late wildcard entry to the state Division 2 (small schools) state wrestling championships which runs Friday and Saturday at the Times Union Center in Albany. Ciarfella, who earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the Niagara-Orleans League Tournament, went on to place second at the Section VI Class B tournament and third at the Section VI state qualifier. He brings a 40-6 season record into the state championships where he will face Darren Florence of Bainbridge/Guilford/Afton/Harpursville (Section IV) in the opening round on Friday. The N-O League will also be represented in the 99 lb.. weight class by Newfane’s Aiden Gillings.
