Purple Eagles top Lady Rams
Moving on top to stay with a quick scoring burst to end the first quarter, Albion went on to defeat host Roy-Hart 47-30 this evening to improve to 9-3 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action.
Chanyce Powell scored a game high 16 points and Justice Nauden added 13 to lead the Albion attack. Jessica Raglan added 6, Kelsee Soule and Mandy Covis 5 and Emily Blanchard 2 for the Purple Eagles.
Taylor Fry scored 8, Becky Harnish 6, Casidhe Heshke 5 and Kendra Hill 4 for Roy-Hart which slips to 2-10.
Roy-Hart did jump out to a 9-4 lead as Taylor had a layup and a three-point play.
However, Albion answered back with a key 10-0 run to close the period and rally into a 14-9 lead.
A layup off a steal by Nauden capped off that uprising which also included layups by Powell and Soule along with jumpers by Covis and Soule.
The Purple Eagles maintained a five point, 23-18, advantage at the half.
Albion then broke the game open win the third place with a 15-6 scoring surge to pull away to a 38-24 advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Nauden and Raglan both had a pair of jumpers to lead that uprising which also included a rebound bucket by Powell and a jumper by Covis.
The Purple Eagles led by as many as 20, 47-27, down the stretch.
Wilson 39, Akron 13
Having already put a firm lock on a fifth straight N-O title, undefeated (12-0) Wilson romped to a 39-13 victory at Akron (5-7).
Emily Lasher had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals and Dana Smith 11 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks to spark Wlson which led 20-9 at the half.
