Purple Eagles surge to win over Rams

Big scoring surges over the middle two quarters keyed Albion to a 77-51 win over visiting Roy-Hart this evening to close out the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball season.

Trailing 19-14 after the first period, Albion used a 24-7 second quarter scoring burst to rally into a 38-26 half-time advantage. Tony Freeman scored 11 and Damion Lattimer 5 to key that rally.

Keeping the momentum, the Purple Eagles then outpointed the Rams 24-8 in the third period to open up a commanding 62-34 lead.  Bailey Blanchard scored 12 and Lattimer 5 to lead that surge.

Blanchard finished with a game high 24 as Lattimer had 14, Freeman 11 and Jahmeek Riley 10.

Aiden Petrie had 14, Rhett Goodwin 8 and Tom Ragonese 6 for Roy-Hart.

Albion finishes the N-O season at 6-6 and Roy-Hart at 3-9.

Newfane 56, Akron 35

Avenging an earlier season 50-31 loss, Newfane bested visiting Akron 56-35 as Sam Capen scored 19, Deuce Capen and Jeremy Foltz 11 and Zach Snow 9.

David Kalinowski scored 10, Mitchell Holtz 9 and Adam Mietz 8 for Akron.

Leading by a narrow 22-18 margin at the half, the Panthers outscored the Tigers 34-17 over the final two periods to pull away for the victory.

Newfane winds up the N-O season at 10-2 and Akron at 8-4.

Final N-O Standings: Medina 11-1, Newfane 10-2, Akron 8-4, Albion 6-6, Roy-Hart 3-9, Wilson 3-9, Barker 1-11.
