Purple Eagles soar to win over Flyers
Closing out the regular season on a high note, Albion downed host Maryvale 53-42 in a non league basketball game this evening.
Caleb Fox and Shakarion Drisdom both scored 12 and Tyler Gibson 11 to lead the way for Albion as Javon Jones added 7, Jahmeek Riley 6, Jay Ashby and Nick Harling 2 and Luqman Cornick 1.
Jordan Alexander took game high honors for Maryvale with 19.
Albion jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead as Drisdom hit a pair of threes and Jones and Ashby both scored on layups off steals.
Back-to-back threes by Fox to close the second period doubled the Purple Eagles advantage to 12, 27-15, at the half.
Keeping the momentum, Albion then used a 17-9 third period scoring edge to open up a 20 point, 44-24, advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Gibson scored 7 on a three and two layups and Fox 6 on three layups to lead that Purple Eagles surge.
However, Maryvale came battling back down the stretch.
The Flyers put together an 18-5 scoring surge, including 12 by Alexander, to slice the Purple Eagles led to just seven, 49-42 with a minute and a half remaining.
Albion though weathered the storm as Gibson made four clutch free throws to close out the 53-42 victory.
Albion, which has won 6 of its last 7, finishes the regular season at 6-12 and Maryvale at 9-11.
