Purple Eagles score Homecoming victory

Celebrating Homecoming, Albion pulled away in the second half to defeat Dunkirk 38-20 this evening in a B2 Division contest.

Leading by a narrow 12-7 margin at the half, Albion opened up a little breathing room by scoring two quick touchdowns in the first three minutes of the third quarter on a 1 yard run by quarterback Amari Jones and a 40 yard punt return by Javon Jones for a 24-7 lead.

Javon Jones also set up the first of those scores by returning the kickoff to open the second half 60 yards to the Dunkirk 25.

The Purple Eagles upped the lead to 30-14 in the final quarter after touchdown runs of 2 yards by Javon Jones and 1 yard by Amari Jones who also tacked on the two-point conversion run.

A 29 yard pass completion from Amari Jones to Nick Harling helped set up the first score and a 22 yard Amari Jones to Kwame Riley set up the second.

Albion jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a 3 yard touchdown run by Jacob Hughson and a 64 yard TD pass from Amari Jones to Riley.

Dunkirk’s Nate Garcia scored the first of his three touchdowns late in the second quarter to pull the Marauders within five at 12-7 at the half.

The victory was the third in a row for Albion which is now 2-2 in the division and 3-2 overall.

The loss drops Dunkirk to 0-5.
