Purple Eagles score diamond sweep

Albion scored a home field diamond sweep this afternoon rallying for a pair of late runs to nip Aquinas 6-5 in softball and romping to a 12-2 victory over Elba in baseball.

In the softball game, Albion pulled even at 5-5 by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Kenzi Hapeman. Singles by Kendall Derisley and Emani Poole along with a sacrifice bunt by Aly Knaak set up the threat.

The Purple Eagles then claimed the win by scoring once in the home half of the seventh on an RBI single by Kendall Derisley. Singles by Brylie Hapeman and Alexis Bentley along with a sacrifice by Paige Derisley set up the opportunity.

Kendall Derisley finished with three hits as Brylie Hapeman, Paige Derisley and Lexi Wolck each had two. Wolck’s hits included a triple.

In the circle, Leah Pritchard registered 10 strikeouts for the Purple Eagles.

Now at 2-1, Albion next hosts Barker in the Niagara-Orleans League opener at 4:45 p.m. Monday.

In the baseball game, Addison Christ hurled a one hitter with 8 strikeouts over the first four innings to earn the win on the mound.

At the plate, Vincent Zona, Bryce Pritchard, Isaiah Callicutt and Michael Harling each had two hits for the Purple Eagles.

Doubles by Pritchard and Callicutt highlighted a three run fifth inning which also included singles by Harling and Thomas Furmanski.

Pritchard then belted a home run, Michael DiCureia a two-run double and Zona a  double to key a four run sixth inning uprising.

The contest was the season opener for the Purple Eagles which next begin N-O competition at Barker on Monday at 4:45 p.m.
