Purple Eagles romp to win over Chiefs

Albion’s Ryan Croft picks up yardage during the Purple Eagles romp over visiting Iroquois this evening.

Exploding out to a commanding 36 point half-time advantage, Albion went on to thump visiting Iroquois 56-20 this evening in an interdivisional football game.

Deyonci Farley and Isaiah Callicutt both scored two touchdowns; Bryce Pritchard, Brilliance Johnson, Nate Moore and Thomas Furmanski each added one and Alex Rustay made good on all eight of his extra point kick attempts as the Purple Eagles improve to 6-0 on the season.

Albion jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three minutes as Callicutt scored on a 3 yard run, a tally set up by a 31 yard run by Johnson.

Iroquois did cut the deficit to 7-6 as Cory Day returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown but the Chiefs would get no closer.

Albion got that one back on a 48 yard touchdown pass from Pritchard to Moore with 3:15 to go in the opening quarter for a 14-6 lead.

The Purple Eagles lead increased to 21-6 in the opening two minutes of the second quarter on a 26 yard touchdown run by Farley, a score set up by a 24 yard run by Pritchard.

Iroquois did drive inside the Albion 30 after a 45 yard run by Day but the Purple Eagles defense rose to the occasion as Brennan Hughes and Jon DePuy combined for a key fourth down sack to stay the advance.

The Albion offense then broke the contest wide open by scoring three quick touchdowns in a span of six minutes.

Johnson ignited that flurry with a 12 yard touchdown run as a 49 yard pass completion from Pritchard to Matt Kovaleski set up the opportunity.

Callicutt then scored on a 5 yard run after the Chiefs gambled and lost on a fourth down try from their own 10 yard line.

Pritchard capped off that scoring burst with  13 yard TD run with just 23 seconds to go upping the Albion advantage to 42-6 at the half. A 33 yard pass completion from Pritchard to Kovaleski keyed that drive.

Farley also scored on a 35 yard run in the third quarter and Furmanski on an 8 yard carry in the final stanza to round out the Purple Eagles scoring parade. A 35 yard run by Callucutt set up the first score and a 25 yard Furmanski to Colton Howell pass completion set up the second one.

Iroquois scored two touchdowns in the final quarter on a 15 yard run by Day and a 29 yard pass from quarterback Ethan Herbold to John Bool.

Albion next visits rival Medina next Friday night in a B2 Division game toy close out the regular season.
