Making it four straight wins and staying in the thick of the title race, Albion rolled to a 40-8 Homecoming victory over Lew-Port this evening in a B North Division game.

The victory boosts Albion’s record to 3-1 in the division and 4-1 overall and keeps the Purple Eagles within a game of undefeated (4-0, 5-0) B North leader Bennett which posted a key 20-12 win over rival Burgard (3-1, 4-1) this evening.

Albion will now host Bennett next Friday night at 7 in a key battle for the division lead.

“We played very well tonight,” said Albion Coach Gary Parisi. “Offensively we were able to run the ball and we really spread the ball around. And defensively we played OK. We came up with a couple of interceptions and fumble recoveries. I was really very proud of our kids and our coaching staff.”

Albion jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the opening minute as quarterback Kyle Smith hooked up with Des Blackmon for a 50 yard touchdown pass on a deep sideline pattern.

The Purple Eagles made it 14-0 before the end of the opening quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run by Smith as Manny Thompson added the two point conversion.

Blackmon scored again in the second quarter on a 2 yard run to put Albion in charge 20-0 at the half.

Trey Hart scored twice for the Purple Eagles in the third quarter on a 55 yard punt return and a 13 yard pass reception from Smith.

Tyler Rotoli rounded out the Albion scoring with a 5 yard run in the fourth quarter.

Smith finished with 217 yards passing completing 10 of 17 attempts and Thompson had 88 yards rushing.

Defensively, Dominic DiCureia had two pass interceptions as Thompson, Hart and Mike Henshaw all had fumble recoveries.

Aaron Burnside led the Purple Eagles in tackles with 12 while Alex Bison made 6, Hart 5 and DiCureia 4.
