Purple Eagles roll past Tigers

Improving to 4-2 in league action, Albion defeated host Akron 62-43 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans boys basketball contest.

Brady Meakin scored 18, including four threes, Tommy Mattison 15 and Evan Pappalardo and Jake Buzard 12 each to lead Albion’s balanced attack. Buzard also grabbed off 11 rebounds.

Gates Abrams took game high scoring honors with 22 for Akron which drops to 0-6.

Albion jumped out to a 15-4 first period lead as Mattison scored 5 and Meakin 4.

The Purple Eagles maintained a 12 point, 28-16, halftime advantage.

Meakin then tallied 10 points in the third period to key a 13-4 surge which upped the Purple Eagles advantage to 41-20 at the three-quarter mark.

Newfane 43, Wilson 38
Newfane bested host rival Wilson 43-38 leaving both teams at 3-4 in N-O competition.

Max Weber scored 12, Chad Gilson 8 and Kyle DeVoogel and Nick Schultz 7 each to lead the Panthers.

Ryan Bradley scored a game high 22 points for Wilson as Alex Fox had 8 and Andrew Eames 6.

Newfane jumped out to an 18-8 first period lead sparked by back-to-back threes by Weber.

The Panthers went on to hold leads of 26-19 at the half and 37-30 at the three-quarter mark.
