Purple Eagles rally past Tigers
Rallying from an 11 point half-time deficit, Albion came battling back to edge visiting Akron 49-45 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League basketball game.
The Purple Eagles improve to 2-1 in N-O action while the Tigers slip to 1-2.
In another N-O contest, Wilson (2-0) downed Barker (0-3) 68-34.
Trailing 31-20 at the half, Albion cut the deficit to five, 37-32, at the three-quarter mark as Liam Ward and Xavier Cornick both scored 5 in the third period.
Keeping the momentum, the Purple Eagles then outscored the Tigers 17-8 in the decisive final period to claim the win. An 8 point run, which included two threes by Cornick sandwiched around a layup by Bryce Pritchard, highlighted that rally. Deyonci Farley also had 5 during the stretch run.
“It was a much needed win,” said Albion Coach David Kozar. “Hopefully this will give us some good momentum.
Farley finished with 18, Cornick 11, Ward 8, Pritchard 7, Vincent Zona 3 and Kevin Hillman 2.
Adam Mietz scored 13 and Aidan Smith 11 to lead Akron.
Albion next visits LeRoy in a non league game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Girls Basketball
Wilson 48, Roy-Hart 44
Wilson (3-0) trimmed Roy-Hart (0-3) 48-44 in an N-O contest as Skylar Munnikhuysen scored 19 and Anna Frerichs and Izzy Dinse 8. Munnikhuysen talled 15 in the second half.
Shelby Wolf scored 13 and Meghan Washington 11 for Roy-Hart.
Holley, Lyndonville bow
Elba defeated Holley 65-12 and Pembroke downed Lyndonville 53-14 in Genesee Region League contests.
